The Best Sherwin Williams Gray Paint Colors

The Best Sherwin Williams Gray Paint Colors

Colors play a crucial role in how we connect with spaces, and the paint color you choose for the walls determines not only how it looks but also how it feels.

Colors have an impact on our emotions to a great extent. Grays are a popular choice, as they radiate simplicity with a fresh and sophisticated feel. Customers tend to pick gray shades like gray cloud Benjamin Moore or shades from Sherwin Williams.

Neutral colors have been the most sought after color choices for the past few years. They are versatile and go with every other color. Gray – the most popular choice for interior painting among neutral colors offers a perfect combo – it is soft, stylish, and provides balance.

It does not overwhelm the room and adds drama to space at the same time. Moreover, it is a pro in complementing a range of furnishing.

Gray colors can also be used to add dimensions to the room. Gray walls and white ceilings look classy and provide personality to space. Roofs can also be painted with lighter shades of gray to create an illusion of a cozy place and make it look spacious. Gray is said to offer a cleaner look than beige, due to the variety of shades in its color palette.

There are numerous shades of gray available in the market, which makes the task of choosing the best gray intimidating. Some are more grayish while others are ‘beige-ish’ or more popularly, they are greige or warm grays. There are cool grays as well, with a blue or green undertone.

Here is the key: you have to make sure the undertones of your gray harmonize with the undertones of interior home elements. Warmer grays are more welcoming and engulfing, while cooler ones radiate modern vibes.

One example of cool gray is gray cloud Benjamin Moore, composed of only black and white pigments. With enough lighting, it looks almost like an icy blue and complements pure white trims well. Gray cloud Benjamin Moore is undoubtedly a fantastic option for a gray paint color with a blue undertone. It will make you feel as if you are levitating in the clouds.

Sherwin Williams offers a LOT of gray paint color shades, so here are some of the best Sherwin Williams Gray Paint colors to help you cut through the clutter.

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray SW 7105

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray SW 7105

With subtle brown-taupe undertones, Repose Gray is a warm gray that can go with literally any décor style. It has a pinch of purple that softens it and prevents it from looking flat and dull. However, this isn’t the most predictable gray; it can flash a wink purple or brown depending upon where you apply it. Repose Gray can be called one of those ‘miracle colors’ as it perfectly complements both dark and light hardwood floors.

LRV tells us how light or dark the color is, as it measures the amount of light a color absorbs or reflects the room. Colors below 50 tend to absorb more light than they remember. Therefore they’re labeled as darker colors. Colors above 50 reflect more light than they absorb, so they’re lighter colors. Repose Gray comes with an LRV of 60.

Sherwin Williams Dorian Gray SW 7017

Sherwin Williams Dorian Gray SW 7017

Coming from the same family as Repose Gray, Dorian Gray is a darker gray with almost green undertones. It looks gorgeous when paired with white color. It can look dark in dim lights, but it will do wonders in larger rooms with plenty of natural lighting.

It has an LRV of 39, which makes it a perfectly warm, neutral gray paint tone. Such colors like Expressive Plum or Jasper Stone go exceptionally well with it.

Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Gray 7019

Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Gray 7019

Just like gray cloud Benjamin Moore, Gauntlet Gray is a cool gray with blue undertones. The coolness of this gray makes sure the room doesn’t feel like a cave but looks elegant and sophisticated. It looks great with lighter creams and whites and can be used in bedrooms, living rooms, and bathrooms, as well as the primary body color for exteriors.

Gauntlet Gray can be an ideal choice if you are looking for a gray charcoal color. If you are a fan of white kitchen cabinets, you can use Gauntlet Gray to add a dimension to space beautifully. It has an LRV of 17, so it looks lovely when contrasted with any lighter selection.

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray 7029

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray 7029

This is an ultimate neutral greige paint color. Since it is a soft blend of warm and cool undertones, it goes with everything. Being Sherwin Williams’s number one selling color, it is loved by the customers because it holds together every other element present in the room from furniture to rugs. Agreeable Gray may look blueish in some cases, but it is considered a warm color.

South-facing rooms make darker colors look brighter, and lighter colors seem like they’re glowing. Thus, a light-neutral color such as Agreeable Gray would suit perfectly in a south-facing room. It can also be used in bathrooms for a fresh and crisp feel.

Agreeable gray has an LRV of 60, and it tends to stay docile. It can also be used for the exterior of your home, but remember that direct sunlight would make it look even lighter.

Sherwin Williams Colonnade Gray 7641

Sherwin Williams Colonnade Gray 7641

Think of it as a baby of Agreeable and Repose Gray. It is warmer than Repose gray with slightly more brown undertones and cooler than Agreeable gray. It doesn’t give fresh vibes like a typical light color but doesn’t weigh down space either. It is soft and subtle and more of a ‘timeless’ color shade.

Warmer tones can be used to balance out Colonnade gray if used in the main walls. It has an LRV of 53, and southern lights soften it up to give a heavenly feel. However, it becomes difficult to pull warmth out of Colonnade Gray in northern lights. It favors green more, but can also complement other calm colors.

Colonnade Gray is pretty flexible and goes well with white, subdued greige or any other lighter tones. It can also be used as the primary body color or at the front door.

Sherwin Williams Silverplate Gray 7649

Sherwin Williams Silverplate Gray 7649

Another neutral gray color, Silverplate gray flashes blue-green undertones and looks stunning as a backdrop of any accent color. It has an LRV of 53, making it look a bit heavy for dark rooms. It seems cleaner and crispier in a well-lit room. When paired with marble tiles and white cabinetry, Silverplate gray looks just flawless.

It tends to favor green, so green becomes an excellent option to be used as an accent color. Using Silverplate in bedrooms gives a refreshing feel.

Sherwin Williams Big Chill 7648

Sherwin Williams Big Chill 7648

Compared to the gray cloud Benjamin Moore, Big Chill has a slightly less green-blue undertone, which makes it a calmer typical gray. It doesn’t wash out in natural light as light colors tend to, but it doesn’t feel heavier too. It lies right in the middle and thus can be called the ‘perfect’ gray. It has cool undertones, but it isn’t as flexible as other neutral gray colors.

If you have trees or grass outside your window, Big Chill might pick it up nicely. It has an LRV of 62, making it a lighter shade of gray.

Sherwin Williams Worldly Gray 7043

Sherwin Williams Worldly Gray 7043

Worldly Gray is less warm than Agreeable Gray, but it doesn’t feel too cold and icy either because there are no blue undertones involved. It bounces light around well while maintaining a modern styling. Its warm undertones tend to come forward with no natural lights. Unlike the gray cloud Benjamin Moore, Worldly gray feels warmer most of the time. It has an LRV of 58.

Firstly, let us start by going through Benjamin Moore’s history. Benjamin Moore is an American paint company established by the Moore brothers in the year 1883. Initially, they started in Brooklyn, NY, with just one product. Currently, owned by Berkshire Hathaway, Benjamin Moore has become one of the leaders in the paint industry.

They have won several accolades and awards with bagging ‘Edison Best New Product Award for Sustainability’ in the year 2010. In July 2015, the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America and Allergy Standards Limited announced that Benjamin Moore produces the most environmentally friendly paint. So indeed, Benjamin Moore is a reputed and trustworthy brand.

What Colour is Edgecomb Gray HC-173?

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray HC-173

In exact terms, according to Encyclopedia, Edgecomb Gray HC-173 is made up of 80.549% red, 85.4902% yellow, 77.2549% blue, 42.8571 hues, 9.633 saturation, 85.4902 lightness. Do not get tensed by these numbers.

They do add up and mean something which you will understand further. According to these values provided by Encyclopedia, Edgecomb Gray HC-173 is greige.

In simpler terms, greige is beige plus gray. The addition of gray and Beige creates a vibrant color, one that works very well for any color scheme. The ratio of Beige to gray in greige determines whether it is a cold or warm neutral.

Talking about Edgecomb Gray HC-173, it is not entirely neutral paint. The best part about it is under certain lightings. It appears as gray (e.g., under optimum sunlight) while in other as Beige (e.g., under less or no sunlight), which suits very well for a warm and organic look.

Benjamin Moore Describes as Edgecomb Gray HC-173

‘A go-to gray that’s timeless with a modern edge, this earthy, organic neutral is soft and stylish, creating a setting that feels distinctly personal.’ That was indeed an apt description. Speaking of which, Edgecomb Gray HC-173 can be considered as an agreeable gray paint.

LRV of Edgecomb Gray HC-173

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray HC-173 Bedroom

LRV plays an essential role while selecting greige color paints. LRV stands for light reflectance value and ranges from zero (0) to a hundred (100) with zero (0) being darkest at black and a hundred (100) being lightest at white. Many recommend that LRV for greige should be around 60 to 65.

Edgecomb Gray HC-173 has LRV around 63-64. As compared to other greige colors, Edgecomb Gray HC-173 has good reflecting properties. This does have some effects, such as in a room without plenty of sunlight, and it may look a bit tacky.

Paint Undertone of Edgecomb Gray HC-173

Paint Undertones occur due to the result of blending more than one color, like greige. The dominant color is called a mass tone or an overtone. Overtone is the color you perceive. For example, if you look at an orange wall, then you perceive it as orange in color as it is an overtone. The color you do not see or perceive is known as an undertone.

The only colors that are not created by mixing other colors are called primary colors (red, blue, and yellow). Following paints, only red, blue, and yellow created from pure pigments would not have an undertone. All other paint colors, even white, have an undertone of some kind. Though white is not technically a color, it can have an undertone when a tint is added.

Undertones can be termed as the secret code of every color. Once you crack this code, you can pair any paint color with another. For example, though blue paint pairs very well with white paint, blue paint with a green undertone is the worst pair with white paint with a pink undertone. The undertones of colors are not always readily perceived until it is paired with specific other color or placed under lighting.

Pink and green are the most challenging paint color undertones to recognize. Neutral colors such as greige can have blue, green, purple, violet, or even taupe undertone. Edgecomb Gray HC-173 has a slight green undertone. Green undertone can be only perceived when your cabinetry or flooring has yellow or orange undertones.

This is what makes the green undertones problematic, but the green undertone of Edgecomb Gray HC-173 is certainly neutral. But even the mere existence of warm woods in your house can trigger off the slightest of a green undertone. Thus, colors such as Edgecomb Gray HC-173, which have a green undertone, can be very tricky to use.

Sampling – Solution:

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray HC-173 Living Room

If you are having a hard time with the undertone and want to recognize the best way to see it, then sampling can be done. The smart way to test colors is by painting the samples on the wall. Often many people test paints on whiteboards.

This is not the right way as the paint looks different on the boards than it does on the walls. The best way to do this sampling is by testing it on a 1-foot x 1-foot area. The more color samples you buy and use, the better results you get.

However, do understand that the existing color of the wall will also impact how the sample appears. Against lighter walls, the colors appear darker, while against dark walls, the colors appear lighter. Do note that sampling depends on the lighting, time of the day, colors of your furniture, carpet, or other materials, and the colors of the multiple walls in your room.

Also, many paint manufacturers recommend you wait at least two hours before judging whether the color applied is right or not. Could you not believe it? Just apply fresh sample paint next to an aged one and see the difference yourself.

Paint manufacturers sell these paint samples for a low cost. They do not want these paint samples to cost a lot because they want you to buy the product eventually. Also, do not worry. These paint samples are not real paint and will not damage your existing painted wall. These paint samples are temporary coats of paint that should later be top-coated. The sizes of these paint samples range from 7.2 ounces to around 30 ounces.

Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams: Review

- Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams

Sherwin Williams is an American company that sells and distributes paints to the American continent and Europe. They are especially famous for their wide range of color palettes. They have combined various colors and have found multiple shades, tones, and hues in each color. Edge comb Gray They even offers different variants in ‘greige,’ a combination of ‘Gray’ and ‘Beige.’ One of those greige shades is Repose Gray or also called Edge comb Gray.

Repose Gray

Edge comb Gray is a timeless color that gives out various feelings when looked at. For starters, its brownish touch makes it look a bit earthy that gives out a welcoming feel. It feels organic because of the Gray and brown combination, and the finish looks classy and high-end. Repose Gray or Edge comb Gray is for you if you are into futuristic or modern-looking paints.

Better than Off-whites!

Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams Interior

When you want to have a light color and are against the idea of having a white wall, then you usually go for off-white shades. But, if you look at the shades that are lighter and closer to Gray, you can see how attractive and modern they look.

Off-whites are okay but have a dull tone to them. If you do not want white and something equally light and friendly, Edge comb Gray / Repose Gray is your only friend here. It has the least undertones of Gray than any other. It is one of those pure Gray tones!

Tones and Shades of Repose Gray

Reviews online state that it gave out some lavender or pink tones when coating the color, but it was not a big deal after the second coating or drying out totally. After the walls have dried up, the purplish undertones appeared no more, and it was more of beige in Gray than any shade of purple.

A few reviews said that the purple shades that appeared in the beginning slowly fade away. But the remnant shades of purple remain and appear on a bright summer day. These purples may fade away totally or stay slightly. Repose or Edge comb Gray is one of the Gray’s that does not fall into the more relaxed and monotonous shades of other Gray’s. Edge comb Gray falls under the rare side of warmer Gray’s.

As it is closer to beige and brown shades, it appears warmer than many other Gray shades. If one can draw a spectrum of all the Gray’s, this falls somewhere in the middle and belongs to the family of medium Gray’s.

It also gives out the shades of taupe. As the color belongs to brown a bit, it gives out the color taupe, which is a middle ground between Gray and brown. These taupe shades are the reason to give out the purple or violet-is tones. Surprisingly, the relation between beige, Gray, and brown makes the color give out shades and greens’ undertones.

The Light and Repose Gray?

Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams Bedroom

The colors have a measure called Light Reflection Value. LRV is a scale to know about the reflection quality of the paint. LRV value of Repose Gray. How color is looked at depends upon the light it reflects.

A naturally lit room looks different than a dim room with the same color as the lit one. So, the brightness and intensity of a wall color depend upon the light falling on it.

The Edge comb Gray has shades as dark as brown and as light as white. When painted in a dark room when natural light doesn’t fall more, its shade gives a cold and desaturated feel. But the more lit the room is, the more saturated and warm the room looks.

The desaturated looks are because of the purples and blues in it. The warm look is because of the brown textures. Regardless of the light, Repose / Edge comb Gray is usually considered as a warm color.

Where to Paint?

To be precise, Repose Gray has a look to fit anywhere that it is painted, and there is no specific room that looks better than any other. It gives out a high-end classy feeling and suits automatically to any room. But after reading out many reviews and looking at people’s houses, it is best to look at which places the Edge comb Gray was painted.

The cooling purple shades present in the Repose Gray gives a relaxed feel if the kitchen is placed in a room with moderate lighting.

Living Room

Because of the warm browns, having Repose/ Edge comb Gray’s look welcoming, and the shades of mud present in color boost the friendly feeling.

A bathroom needs a color that does not get stained by hard water flow. Whites get easily stained and are hard to maintain. Off-whites are dull for a bathroom, and Repose Gray’s lavender shades give an aromatic feeling. Which perfectly suits any bathroom.

If you have Edge comb Gray or any other light colors, this versatile Gray shade appears fantastic in contrast to them. This contrast is precisely why having a decor or electronic item with Repose Gray looks impressive in a light-colored wall. Imagine the kitchen cabinets in repose Gray, and it looks modern and striking!

Modifying the Intensity

Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams Living Room

If you wanted this shade of Greige only because of its warmth, you could try to lighten it because the warmth of Repose Gray depends entirely upon the natural light. If any of your room does not have much natural light and you want the paint to be warm, you have a simple yet effective solution at your hands. You can buy white paint and mix it with the colour tint of Edge comb Gray you have. It lightens the colour and removes all the other dark and cool undertones.

This method helps to have a warm, naturally lit texture for a paint.

If you want to lighten the colour and increase shades of other colours in your paint, it is quite simple. It will help if you put a few drops of paint that you need, i.e., Repose Gray onto the brush. The lighter tones are prioritized, and the most popular colour chosen to lighten the colour is to add white.

One needs to remember mixing more drops of colour that are to be dominant. If cooler shade is what you are looking for, you need to mix darker shades with less Repose Gray. Similarly, if you are looking for warmth, you need to add a few drops of Gray and more drops of beige, brown, and other lighter shades. This lightening and darkening are a simple techniques to customize the tones of any color.

Using other Gray colours lighter or darker than the actual Edge comb, Gray also cuts the intensity down. Instead of using different additive colours, you can choose colours near the colour palette of repose Gray. There are many neighbors for grey, as there are still confusion and demands over the grey!

  • Eider White is a colour closer to white and has Gray-is undertones, making it one of the brightest Gray shades ever.
  • Dorian Gray is another brilliant neighbor of Repose Gray. It has more beige and looks more relaxed at the same time.
  • Pavestone, the third color in the palette, is the beginning of the shades going towards beige and brown. It has more warmth and is more welcoming than Repose Gray.
  • Riverway, the one below Pavestone, is where the Gray turns darker, colder, and has more greenish undertones
  • Repose Gray is the optimal color that comprises all the other Gray; it is one of the substantial Gray’s.

A Few Reviews

Repose Gray by Sherwin Williams

“This is a beautiful shade of Gray! You are lucky to have an expert painter’s opinion! It took me literally months to pick out a Gray paint and finally landed on the Gray owl. I never realized how tricky Gray’s were until then!” – Dani

“I tried 50% Repose, and it gives me a blue tone feeling. Am I just imagining this, or can this happen when you lighten it down? The true repose does not feel blue at all. The 50% is catching me off guard now. What do you think?” – Kristi

The reviews gained mixed to positive opinions all over the internet. Everyone was happy because of the reasonable prices and the optimal Gray between all the Gray’s.

Final Words

Repose Gray is that ideal Gray, which can be used everywhere and anywhere. The only problem with this Gray is that the color gives out different undertones and shades in extra natural light settings.

You must customize the color by adding whites or blacks for the proper saturation you want. That is a heavy burden to take after purchasing a paint color.

Another drawback of repose Gray is not a fresh color that gives an energetic feeling.

It is welcoming and friendly, but it is still dull. To take the dullness out, one has to choose the lightning darkening method again. If you are up to Gray’s, then go for it! It is the best Gray available in all the other undertones of Gray!

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray SW 7029: Is it Truly the Best Gray?

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray SW 7029

It is almost agreeable for most of the people that ‘Agreeable Gray’ is one of the most complimentary colors. It is one of the Greige colors, i.e., combinations of Gray and beige. It is soft and primarily a warm color with a greater number of warm undertones than cooler. On a scale between Gray and beige, it is a tad closer to Gray and has residual beige shades.

Agreeable Gray

This color is like the Revere Pewter color that is in between Agreeable Gray and beige but a tad cooler. If Agreeable Gray were to shade up a bit and mix some blacks and blues, it would become Revere Pewter.

They are closely related and can be called brotherly in terms of the closeness between shades. Agreeable Gray is warmer and reflects more light than Revere Pewter Paint because of the lightness and the dark undertones.

Tones, Tints, and Shades in Agreeable Gray

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray SW 7029

Like Sherwin Williams’ other shades of Gray, this Gray has undertones of various sets of colours. Gray’s exist from off-white colours to almost black colours. From the white-end to the black-end, there are lots of warmer and colder colours. The tints (colours mixed with whites), shades (colours mixed with blacks), and tones (colours mixed with Gray) of Agreeable Gray look classy and premium as their other neighboring Gray’s.

Beige and Taupe

Beige and Taupe undertones are most evident in Agreeable Gray and the similar Revere Pewter Paint. Both the colours have warmer hues of Beige & Taupe, and a slight modification in shades of beige and taupe can generate Repose Gray, Agreeable Gray, and Revere Pewter Paint.

Alpaca is darker than agreeable Gray, Repose Gray, and revere pewter. It is way darker, and the saturation is more relaxed compared to other Gray’s.

The Light Reflectance Values measure a color’s warmth and cold. LRV is the reflection rate; the LRV of White is 100, and the LRV of Black is 0. As black does not reflect any light, it is LRV is zero, and White bounces any light.

Gray’s LRV value is 60, and it is somewhat in the middle of the scale. In comparison, Revere Pewter’s LRV is 55.5, significantly closer to the agreeable Gray. Both the identical Gray’s reflect a decent amount of light, and that is neither more nor less.

Its LRV suggests that this is the Greyest of all Gray’s. Gray is a pure mixture of total white and absolute black. Hence, a colour having LSR around 50-60 is considered pure Gray!

Agreeable Gray and Revere Pewter Paint have LRV ranging from 50-60, making them the purest of Gray’s. They are perfect neutral Gray’s!

As the LRV range is neutral, the undertones of Agreeable Gray and Revere Pewter Paint have neutral undertones. Agreeable Gray looks warm because of its taupe and brownish undertones. They also look equally cool, given the right natural light.

This coolness in Agreeable Gray is because of the violet and purple undertones it gives out. Even its undertones, hue, saturation, and shades are perfectly balanced, making it perfect, and the Gray that is agreeable!

Lighting Conditions

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray SW 7029 Interior 2

Any colour looks different in different lighting conditions. In a well-exposed room, peach may give out orange. Similarly, all the shades and tints of Gray give out undertones of blue, purple, and green.

You can observe different undertones in different types of lighting conditions. In a subtly lit room, Agreeable Gray might throw out as a shade of blue. Even though it is primarily warm because of its LRV, it can still give out cooler shades.

You can see the balanced and soft colour of Agreeable Gray that balances all the hues in a decently exposed and well-lit room. This balanced and smooth colour appears out as a middle tone between Gray and beige. That is why it comes under the list of all the other greiges!

To know if this colour is hot, you need to compare it with the other paint colours. One confusing thing about Agreeable Gray is that if you choose a relatively warm colour, the Agreeable Gray looks cooler in comparison.

Similarly, if you compared it with a rapid cool paint colour, it seems warmer. The neutral undertones and hues play the culprit here. If you are looking for the warmer colours of Gray, you should also check the colours of objects and items placed before these walls.

If there is an object which is warmer than Agreeable Gray, your walls suddenly feel desaturated. It is up to you to decide how you want your paint colour to feel. But regardless of the lighting conditions and comparisons, Agreeable Gray as a paint colour is warm because of the beige undertones leveraging a bit more than Gray’s.

But they play a significant role in making a room look good. As Agreeable Gray is neutral paint colour, it matches almost any colour. If you have different colours on your walls, this colour will match them because of the balanced combination.

Agreeable Gray is an excellent fit for bathrooms. Many classy hotels make sure their bathrooms are shades of neutral Gray. The ceramics and steel taps look incredible with agreeable Gray, Repose Gray, and revere pewter paints. If your bathrooms are painted with white or off-white, you can still have your cabinets in Agreeable Gray because they look so good together.

Cabinets are those things that are in the middle of you and your wall. Regardless of what the color of your wall is, Agreeable Gray cabinets are a perfect match—the cupboards, coffee tables, and even dining tables with Agreeable Gray look fancy.

Struggle for an Identity!

Repose Gray, agreeable Gray, and revere pewter are the paint colors that look almost similar. The only differences in those colours are undertones, LRV, and shades. One can confuse all the three as the same because of the striking similarities. If placed together, you can see the differences, but you cannot name them without the labels.

Revere pewter’s LRV is at 55.5, Repose Gray’s LRV at 50, and Agreeable Gray’s LRV at 60; they are so close yet so far from each other. They all belong to the neutral Gray club, but their associations with beige make the difference. Comparatively, Agreeable Gray is closer to the beige than the other two. Unlike evident purple undertones, the other two, Agreeable Gray, have less to no purple undertones.

Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray SW 7016 Review

This paint colour from Sherwin Williams, a paint manufacturer, is one of their multiple shades of Gray’s. It belongs to the family of mid-tone Gray’s and just a tab darker than Repose Gray.

One can confidently paint this Gray on its main walls. The mid-tone Gray, which lies between off-white and darker Gray, is the best solution if you want to tone down all the warm colours. It falls in line with the requisite Gray.

Considered as one of the warmer Gray’s, it appears calm when painted on walls. The classy finish and tone downs make it look like those rich houses in vintage TV shows. Let us explore all the qualities and overview of this Mindful Gray!

Mindful Gray

Mindful Gray is like Requisite Gray closer to the beige-is undertones. Just like the agreeable Gray, even mindful Gray is one of the neutral tones of Gray. It falls in the range of pure Gray’s that are a mixture of all the balanced shades. But it falls short of a few tones and is one of the beginning shades where the Gray palette starts. The Gray’s that are towards beige are warmer, and the ones away are cooler. Mindful Gray and Requisite Gray are far beyond the beige but still have minimal greige undertones.

Combinations Involved

Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray SW 7016 Paint

As we know, many colors combine to form a specific color. The primary colors are red, green, and blue. White and black are sort or washed out and dipped-in results of all the colors.

Something too white is just a washout. Something black is too thick. All the other colors are somehow the combinations of RGB and the results of weird fusions. Gray’s are a fusion of white and black.

The palette of Gray’s occupies the middle part of the color wheels. It is because Gray is a result of white and black that are at two extremes. Mindful Gray and requisite lie at the beginning of this Gray color palette.

The combinations involved in Mindful Gray are a bit weird. The blue shades and light oak-is warmth make it look like a perfectly balanced color. But unlike Agreeable Gray, it is not an entirely neutral Gray. It is more of a blue-is tint added to toned down oak-is color.

Warmth and Cold

Usually, Mindful Gray and requisite Gray give out warm tones if you look at them digitally or on paper. But when painted on walls, the blue-is undertones inside them make them a lot cooler than you expected.

But this cannot be considered just as a cooled-down Gray.

Because if you cool the Gray down and compare it with Mindful Gray, you will find the mindful Gray to be warmer than the cold Gray. This difference is because of the equally balanced beige undertones. It might not be evident, but this color belongs to the greige color family.

Lighting always affects the look of paint color. Mindful Gray appears to be cool in a dark room, and the blue-is undertones elevate over the warm beige undertones. As mindful Gray is closer to the blues than browns, it is natural to have the wall look cooler in dark areas.

It might give out as Agreeable Gray or even darker Gray’s such as repose Gray. It is a lot darker than Alabaster’s Gray. Alabaster Gray can pose as Mindful Gray if it is applied thick.

It appears as a different color in a well-exposed room where the sun’s yellow and orange lights hit those Mindful Gray walls.

The reflective nature of Gray (because of the white undertone) reflects those orange-is rays of the sun and look warm. You can see the warm, mindful Gray you have seen digitally or on paper when the room is entirely lit by sunlight. This warmth happens because of the beige and warmer undertones present.

Partners in Aesthetics

Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray SW 7016 Interior Wall

No color goes single; they need another color to create a contrast and look aesthetically pleasing. Like every other color, even Mindful Gray and its twin requisite Gray need another color that goes hand in hand with them.

This search for a combination is much needed because if you want to paint mindful Gray to your ceiling, the wall paint should contrast with the ceiling giving out a dramatic look. Primarily, the Gray’s that are blue-is and cool make the right partner for both mindful Gray and requisite Gray.

Eider White

This specific colour falls under the family of off-white and can make a good contrast in front of Mindful Gray. The undertones of white and cold saturation make it a great fit.

Pearly White

Pearly white is even lighter than Eider white and can make a good team up with Mindful Gray. This colour is warmer than Eider white and looks like washed-off Mindful Gray.

Homburg Gray

This paint colour falls on the darker edge of the Gray colour palette, the other extreme of Mindful Gray. If these both are two extremes in the colour palette, then they make a good fit without a doubt. Extremely opposite colours always make a great fit!

This colour has the undertones of blue and green. It looks like thick Mindful Gray with more blues and greens. Like Homburg Gray, it makes Mindful Gray look lighter, as light as off-white. It is an excellent combination as Riverway is colder than Homburg Gray in saturation.

It has more blue undertones and is at the extreme Gray edge, which is bluer than Gray. It cannot be called one of the Gray’s because it falls in line with navy blues. Its saturation is cold and has almost no warmth even after coating it to the walls.

The light reflection is also low, and it makes a perfect combination with Mindful Gray and requisite Gray. If you have Naval colored walls, Mindful Gray becomes a good option for your ceiling or properties around.

Highlights of Mindful Gray

Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray SW 7016 Exterior

Mindful Gray is primarily a warm color, yet it does not appear too warm when coated on walls. And that happens because of the blue undertones it has. The undertones of blue and green make it look cooler at certain lighting conditions.

This quality makes it join the team of neutral Gray’s that balance both the saturation. It can look bluer in dim-lit environments. It is near to Repose Gray and falls on the same palette as requisite Gray. Wooden tones look lovely in front of Mindful Gray.

The most beautiful fit for this color is cabinets. This color looks darker than white and a color that looks fabulous for any cabinets. White cabinets are a cliché and not a good fit if you have warm colors. Off-white cabinets are cool but cannot match all kinds of wall colors. But Mindful Gray’s off-white undertones mixed with blue and green undertone undertones make it a good match for almost any wall colours.

If you have cold coloured walls, Mindful Gray either mix in with them or appears a bit warmer in front of them, given their saturation intensity. Similarly, if the walls are warm, Mindful Gray either get mixed with them or seems cold, giving out a contrast given the saturation intensity. This mixing in with any of the colours happens because of the balance’s undertones.

Other Places for Mindful Gray

Cabinets and furniture are the top preferred areas to paint Mindful Gray and requisite Gray. But the other sites that look good for Mindful Gray are exteriors, living rooms, bedrooms, and drawing rooms.

Mindful Gray is a fine choice for exteriors because of the balanced finish it has. Living rooms and drawing rooms exist to entertain the guests, so a paint color that looks a tad warmer would be welcoming. It is also the best thing to paint Mindful Gray on ceiling and roofs because it matches almost any non-vibrant colors.

Wrapping up

Mindful Gray is called neutral because it is not too much beige or not too Greyish in appearance. It has undertones of greige, but even that is not evident enough to identify. Unlike other neutral Gray’s, Mindful Gray is a bit warmer and closer to off-whites because it is at the extreme Gray palette’s edge. This position makes it easier to get confused with the requisite Gray of other off-whites.

It would be best if you had a look at it physically than on screens or paper. Please check out painted rooms or small samples. It might look different if the mixing is not done correctly. Mindful Gray, because of the balance of many undertones, can get off as a different shade if it gets too thin.

It is always best to look at physical samples to judge a color as balanced as Mindful Gray. Gray’s are hard to choose, and neutral Gray’s make it even challenging to differ and pick.
